Burgundy's Rising Star - Amelie Berthaut After taking over the family Domaine in 2013, Amelie has quickly become one of Burgundy's rising stars, a rarity in a region so deep with tradition. Amelie, the daughter of Denis Berthaut and Marie-Andrée Gerbet, combines seven generations of winemaking with a degree in agro-oenology engineering in Bordeaux and experience making wine with Agnes Henry at Domaine de la Tour du Bon in Bandol, and Dunn in California. It's no wonder her wines are so special and so expressive. After tasting through her wines from the spectacular 2018 vintage, these two wines really stand out as excellent examples of her winemaking expertise and deep roots in her estate's terroir.
Domaine Berthaut - Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits 2018 From a 1.6 hectare parcel named Concoeur, on the plateau between Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Planted by grandfather 60 years ago. Fully destemmed. Fermented in cement and aged in oak foudres for 14 months. A vibrant and expressive Pinot Noir with aromas of candied strawberry, rich earth minerals, zesty bergamot, and a warmth of spice.
Newsletter Special - $32.99 Domaine Berthaut - Fixin "Les Crais" 2018 An emblematic parcel for the Domaine, bottled separately for a long time because of its inherent quality. This is from a 1.38-hectare parcel with stony and chalky soil and an alluvial sub-soil, planted in 1946, 1960, 1988 and again in 2002. Aged in barrel for 15 months (approximately 20% new). 15% whole cluster. This parcel's expression is much more richer in style with aromas of ripe blueberry and wild violets, balanced nicely with clean minerals a depth of spice. I love this young, but there is no doubt this will continue to develop in the bottle for many years to come.

The Paring - Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara 2018 Made from the winemaker [Matt Dees] and the vineyards of JONATA and The Hilt, and crafted with close connections to Screaming Eagle. The Paring is a perennial overachiever at an everyday value! 92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck "The 2018 Pinot Noir sports a medium ruby/purple color as well as earthy cherry and raspberry fruits, violets, and peppery herb-like aromas and flavors. It's nicely textured, with terrific balance as well as outstanding purity of fruit, all making for a smoking value in Pinot Noir. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years or so."
Pre-Arrival Offer - Only $24.99
Joanin Bécot - Côtes de Castillon, Bordeaux 2018 Decanter-93 / Jeb Dunnuck-91-93 / Wine Spectator-90-93 "One of the best Joanin-Bécots I can remember tasting - this is rippling with fruit and is full of the easy pleasure that you want from a Castillon. This is the second vintage with Thomas Duclos as consultant and the first with new technical director Jean de Connick. As an aside, all the tractor drivers and vineyard workers live on the vineyard both here and at Beausejour Bécot, so they worked when needed to ensure protection against mildew and later the heat, which helped hugely in preserving their 50hl/ha yields from clay-limestone soils." Decanter - 93 Points
