Clos St. Antonin - Cotes du Rhone, Southern Rhone 2018 Pure Grenache Expression by the Master Winemakers Isabelle and Christophe Sabon of Domaine de la Janasse! Made from 30-50 year old vines within the village of Plan de Dieu, grown on the iconic terroir of red clay, sand, and the famous Rhone galets. Made with as minimal intervention as possible, neutral oak aging, and zero sulfates added, the 2018 Clos St. Antonin Cotes du Rhone is Isabelle's purest expression of Grenache elegance. The wine opens with delicate aromas wild violets and fresh black raspberry, followed by a depth of mineral rich earth and peppery spice. The palate is silky smooth, clean, and easy drinking. This is as close to Chateauneuf du Pape as you can get without breaking the bank! Medium-bodied, seamless, and beautifully balanced, this is a terrific Côtes du Rhône to enjoy over the coming 3-5 years." Clos Saint Antonin is a 15 hectare estate located outside the town of Jonquières within the Côtes-du-Rhône Village of Plan de Dieu. A short drive away from Courthézon where Domaine de la Janasse is situated, Clos Saint Antonin was purchased by the Sabon family in 2014. Small, compact and contiguous estates rarely come on the market in the Rhône, let along ones planted on the classic red clays, galets and sand typical of Plan de Dieu. While it is quite common to see the famed estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape looking over the Rhône river towards Lirac to expand their holdings, more and more are looking north to Plan de Dieu since this terroir is quite similar to what they find in their backyard. While the whole family is involved with its farming and winemaking, Isabelle Sabon is heading up this new project – one supplemented by some of her family’s vineyards in Le Crau for the Clos Saint Antonin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Aperture - Red Bordeaux Blend, Alexander Valley, Sonoma 2019 Wine Advocate 95-97 - Deep ruby-purple in color, the nose bursts with lilac perfume, Morello cherries, cured meats, star anise, tar and a mineral undercurrent. The palate is pixelated and lifted with glorious perfume lingering on the very long finish. Newsletter Special - $42.99
