Campo alle Comete - Bolgheri Stupore, Tuscany 2016 WS94/WE94/WA93 Wine Spectator 94 - "Intense and pure, with a beam of black cherry, wild herbs and spice piercing a dark abyss of finely wrought tannins. Terrific acidity keeps this fresh and focused, while the finish evokes chocolate, ripe fruit, spice and mineral notes. Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2020 through 2032. 6,500 cases made, 650 cases imported." Pre-Arrival Special - $29.99 Arrives Tuesday May 3rd Wine Advocate 93 - "The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore boasts more precision than the 2015, which was a hot vintage noted for being ripe and soft. This one is much more linear and focused. It is sharper and better, and came out as the winner in this group of samples from Campo alle Comete (tasted over the course of two tasting sessions six months apart). You get a lot of dark fruit intensity here with ripe and balanced flavors that span the aromatic continuum from black fruit to spice. My second tasting of the wine showed how much it has fleshed out and taken on volume over the course of those months. The blend is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Some 14,000 bottles were made. This is the first vintage made entirely by Campo alle Comete's new owners." Campo alle Comete estate is located at the foot of Castagneto Carducci, in province of Livorno. The property extends over 17 Ha, 14.5 of which are vineyards and 2.5 hectares are olive trees. The grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot, planted between 1993 and 2007, are all written into the Bolgheri DOC registry. The winery practices sustainable farming, and in 2016 they started the conversion of the vineyards to organic.
Catena Zapata - D.V. Zapata, Malbec Blend, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina 2019 JS94/TA92/WA91+ The DV Zapata is a special assemblage of High Mountain Estate Vineyards made by fourth generation vintner, Laura Catena and chief winemaker, Alejandro Vigil. Through decades of study and exploration within Mendoza's high altitude mountain terroirs, the Catena family has identified special locations for its Estate vineyards. From the marriage of these historic vineyards emerges a wine of unique character that has natural balance, concentration and a distinct varietal identity. I like to think of this as Bordeaux meets Argentina. We love this wine as a case-worthy everyday drinker with significant aging potential for up to 15+ years. Newsletter Special - $14.99
