Rocca di Montegrossi - Chianti Classico, Tuscany, 2019 D92/JS92/V91+ Decanter - 92 Points - "Owner Marco Ricasoli recalls the harvest of 2019 as unusually calm – one of the few in which he didn’t have to base his picking strategy on the weather forecast. While his wines never lack freshness, the 2019 is positively racy! Scents of blackberry and fennel are interlaced with smoke, and the palate brings together brambly fruit with fleshy red plum. This is mouthfilling and clean, with ripe, smooth tannins that are chalky textured - plus all of that vibrant acidity." Now on Sale! - $17.99 The Chianti Classio is Montegrossi's flagship wine, comprised of 90% Sangiovese, 8% Canaiolo and 2% Colorino, all certified organic. The wine undergoes a slow fermentation, then aged 11 months in glass-lined concrete vats and Allier oak vats, then bottled unfiltered. This is an extremely elegant, balanced wine with pleasant minerality, and unique complexity from the indigenous Canaiolo and Colorino varietals. Rocca di Montegrossi is located in Monti in Chianti close to the Romanesque church of San Marcellino. Long regarded as one of the finest sections of Chianti Classico, Montegrossi boasts such neighbors as San Giusto a Rentennano, Badia a Coltibuono, & Il Palazzino. The estate encompasses about 100 hectares; 20 of which are planted to vine, another 20 are olive groves, and the remainder is forest. The vineyards are on gentle south and southeast-facing hillsides with calcareous loamy soils, at elevations between 340 and 510 meters above sea level. Bodega Lanzaga (Telmo Rodriguez) - Rioja Lanzaga, Spain 2017 Wine Advocate 94 Points - "This is a blend from their 15 to 20 hectares of organically farmed vines, all head-pruned on slopes rich in clay and limestone, mixing red and white soils, places with more sandstone, others with more marl, looking for complexity. It fermented in 6,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 1,500- and 2,500-liter oak foudres and 225-liter barriques for 14 months. It has great balance and freshness, it's very clean and doesn't show any of the challenges or shortages of the harvest. It's creamy, juicy and medium-bodied, with very fine tannins, a serious wine that changed in 2013-2014 to this complexity and depth." Newsletter Special - $27.99
