Medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, it's sensual and concentrated, with lively acids and a long, resonant finish. This has turned out especially well."

The super-sleek, delineated and tautly muscular flavors retain a degree of refinement that borders on finesse, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, highly complex and long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is pretty much textbook Fontenys that should amply repay extended cellaring. 91-94 points"

(Domaine Joseph Roty Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys 1er Cru Red) "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys 1er Cru was quite closed and reticent on the nose from barrel, touches of cassis and violet petal eventually unfurling, though it remained broody. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh and vibrant. The velvety-textured finish is very caressing. Pure and focused, with a surfeit of energy, this is a superb Premier Cru from Roty. (Drink between 2025-2050)  (92-94) points"
