Domaine Louis Boillot Et Fils - Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes 2018 (750ml)

A much more deeply pitched nose grudgingly offers up notes of poached plum, dark currant, earth and a lovely range of discreet spice elements. There is better volume and richness to the sappy and slightly more complex flavors that possess slightly better finishing balance though the tannins are still inelegant and somewhat coarse. Boillot's ancient vines have produced three barrels of the glorious 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes, a striking wine that exhibits aromas of cherries, cassis, rich soil tones, citrus rind and violets. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's voluminous and concentrated, concluding with a long and lively finish. As I wrote last year, this cuvée hails from a parcel planted a century ago, and it contains some 5% small-berried selections of Gamay.
